I said I’d be back with a new Texas Thursday post this week so here I am! I hope you all are having a great week so far. I started my new job with my current company on Monday which is really exciting. In case you missed my other Texas Thursday posts, you can find the first two here and here! I am a new Texan, originally from Kentucky. I lived in Florida for two years before moving to the DFW area to be with my boyfriend of almost 5 years(May 28 marks year 5!) I enjoy living in Texas. My Texas Thursday posts help me document some of our adventures.
One: Katy Trail
Katy Trail is in Downtown Dallas! When we go to the trail, I know that we can get a great workout, see cute puppies and explore Dallas. It’s a nice change from our normal running paths! They also have occasional 5K’s on the trail so I’m looking forward to doing one of those. After your walk, run or bike ride, you can stop by the Katy Trail Ice House for a drink. They also have delicious food. If you walk one way on the trail, you can actually walk by the American Airlines Center where the Dallas Mavericks play. Keep walking down Houston Street and you can also see a little US History which brings me to point number 2!
Two: The Site of John F. Kennedy’s Assassination
John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in November 1963 while JFK’s motorcade was en route to go to the Dallas Trade Mart from Dallas Love Field Airport. In Dealey Plaza in Downtown Dallas, you can visit The Sixth Floor Museum and see the “X” where JFK was shot. You can also view the timeline by going to The Sixth Floor Museum’s website. I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in Dallas. Joe and I just walked by and did our “own” tour reading the plaques around the site, but there is a museum and other things you can do as well. Dallas also has a CityPass where you can visit 4 of the top attractions for one price.
Three: Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a beautiful oasis any time of year. So far, we have just been to the Arboretum three times. The first time was during a random summer/almost fall time period. The second time we went for the seasonal pumpkins and fall flowers. Then in December we went with some friends for the 12 Days of Christmas decorations. Hopefully we can get out there this spring to enjoy it again. The Dallas Arboretum is such a beautiful place to walk around one after noon and enjoy being outside.
Four: New to us Restaurants
Sometimes it is easy to fall into repetition with visiting the same restaurants. We live in such a great area with so many different restaurants so recently we have been trying to branch out. Last weekend alone, we tried three new-to-us restaurants! I would definitely recommend all three of them too!
Bob’s Steak and Chop House — This steakhouse has many awards from D Magazine for being one of the Best Steakhouses! We went last Friday and it did not disappoint. From the wine, to the bread, to the steaks and to our server we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Village Burger Bar — If you are near the Shops at Legacy in Plano, you need to check out this place. The DFW area has no shortage of great burger joints but this one is definitely up there with one of my favorites now!
Banana Leaf Thai — My boyfriend, Joe, has been trying to get me to try Thai food for a while now so last weekend we finally did. We got it delivered thanks to GrubHub and it hit the spot.
Four: The Dallas Skyline
The Dallas skyline is pretty, but one of the most iconic parts of it is Reunion Tower. We only saw the outside of it from the ground floor last weekend, but we need to go back! I’d love to see the Dallas Skyline from 470 feet up! They have a casual restaurant called Cloud 9 and a fine dining restaurant called Five Sixty. Dining at Five Sixty is definitely on the bucket list! The Omni Hotel(skyline picture credit) is also on the bucket list of places I’d like to visit! One day we will get there.
That wraps up this Texas Thursday. I hope you all are having a great week! I have some questions for you!
What are your favorite touristy things to do in your city?
Have you ever been to Texas?
Have you ever dined at a restaurant like Five Sixty?
