I’m sorry, I had to with that blog post title! I’m so unoriginal, I know! Well, another April has come and gone. Most of this weekend was spent relaxing which was a nice change of pace compared to the business of last weekend.
On Friday, we went out to dinner at our favorite local Italian place for Lasagna and Ravioli. Our food was exactly what we needed to fuel up for our race the next morning! Earlier in the week, we signed up for the Dallas Cowboy’s Draft Day 5k at their training facility in Frisco, TX!
After dinner, we ran errands to: Target, World Market, and a local liquor store. We found out the hard way that all liquor stores in the area close at 9 PM which was a bummer. I just wanted the stuff to make rum runners but you learn! I was a little grumpy the rest of the evening so we came back to the apartment and started watching Scandal! Y’all, I know I am 5 seasons behind but after the first episode I was hooked. I just want to be a gladiator in suit!
I woke up around 8:15 am Saturday morning which is basically my normal time since moving to my new work schedule. All week the weather forecast had said that it was going to rain/storm all day. I was nervous because I have not run a race in the rain before. Thankfully, the rain held off all day! I fueled up with a cup of coffee and a Clif Snack Builder Chocolate Mint Protein bar.
The race was set to start at 10:00 AM so we left for the venue around 9:00. Thanks to toll roads, it didn’t take us long to arrive. I was excited for this race because I thought I would be able to get my 5k down between 35-37 minutes. My fastest up until this point was around 39:23. They had a area to sit down and stretch beforehand so that’s exactly what we did!
About 15-20 minutes before the start, the announcer had the runners come over to the start area. A former Cowboy’s player did a small interview, two high school students sang the National Anthem, and then a lady with the Cowboy Fit team warmed us up as a group. Soon it was 10:00 and go time! Since we went over to the start area when people first started heading over, we ended up being in the first corral! That was a cool feeling because that’s never happened. I’m not fast, so normally with my pace at RunDisney races I’m in one of the back corrals! This was a nice change.
Joe and I stayed together for the first part, but I did not feel great. I think I started out of the gate too fast and then I got a side cramp. It was so frustrating but I still pushed myself when I felt like I could. I didn’t take any photos on the course, but I can sum it up in three words. Hilly, windy, and fun! Even with my side cramp and needing water, I had fun running around The Star in Frisco. There were people of all ages running! That’s one of the things I love about running, there’s no age requirement. Joe finished before I did and waited for me at the finish line. When he was done, he texted me “Go Rae Rae, Go!” which was motivation I needed to keep going! We got our medals at the end and then I laid down where we had stretched earlier because I was tired! I finished the 5K in 39:11 which is a PR so I’ll take it. I still have a long way to go but having fun is the main part right now.
After I ate my banana and we sat around for a while, we ventured into the Star with our beers! They had inflatables for the kids, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader meet and greet, vendors, and an area for puppy adoption! This made my heart so happy because we were able to go visit and actually pet the different puppies up for adoption. We aren’t ready to adopt a puppy yet, but there was one named Stitch that caught my attention. He was out of the crate and was so happy/loving. I had a great time petting him but I had snacks in my hand so I think that’s why he really loved me, haha! Sadly, we walked away without one but I’m still praying Stitch got a good home. We left after getting free Dr. Pepper samples and headed to the fan outfitter store to get my first Dallas Cowboys football shirt!
Since it was noon when we left, we headed to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch. If you like Blue Moons and mimosas, they have a Bluemosa there which was so good. We ate and watched more of the draft. After lunch we came back to the apartment so I could nap. Once I woke up, we got ready for the day and ran some errands. We went back to the liquor store from the day before, got dinner at Chipotle, and then one other place before heading home! I had a Mai Tai while we watched Scandal! We finished season 1 Saturday night without realizing it! That show is that good.
Sunday was such a lazy day! We lounged around in our PJ’s for most of the day after skipping church. I made us bacon, egg and cheese breakfast tacos with hashbrowns which were yummy. We watched the first three episodes of season 2 of Scandal on Netflix. We did other boring stuff around the apartment but it got exciting once Joe’s copy of Mario Kart 8 for the Nintendo Switch got here! I got a little competitive in the few rounds we played but it was still fun! Sunday was spent relaxing before we went out for Mexican food at On The Border.
We ran to Target again for something else and I found the Caramel M&M’s that I heard about on social media! They are yummy and if you see a bag, try them! Of course this is if you like chocolate and caramel too. We spent the rest of the night relaxing and I worked on some blog stuff while Joe studied. Overall it was a great weekend! Hopefully this week is a great one for all of us. My second week of training for my new job starts this week so I’m excited for that!
